The Occupy Toronto Circus: a Photo-Chronicle

The Occupy Wall Street movement was mirrored in many countries in the world. In Canada its strongest manifestation was in Toronto. It had been a year since it started and ended. It is time to revisit and re-evaluate those events, which were supposed to transform profoundly our society. Despite the great promises, Occupy Toronto turned into a disaster for its organizers (although most of them are still unaware of that fact).

The author has collected materials for the book through research and analysis of the media coverage of the movement. However, the most important sources had been his personal contacts and conversations with the occupiers. Even though in most cases they were too confused to say anything constructive (or offer something sensible as a program), the movement provided an alarming insight into the troubling degradation of our society.

Another essential element of the book are the photos taken by the author - over 150 of them - which have preserved for the posterity the madness of those events. They chronicle the events from the start in mid-October to the day when the police and the city workers dismantled the St. James Park camp.

The author also attempts to answer the questions about who participated in the movement, what drove them, and who their supporters were. There is also a chapter on why their way of "reforming" our society had no chances to succeed.
