The Huntsman

Kansas City is a metropolis so fractured by class and race that, by the early '90s, even childhood friends rarely cross the city's color line to speak. But when a young debutante's body washes up in the Missouri River, her death and the ensuing investigation-forces the city's inhabitants to examine their own buried history.
,br>In his atmospheric debut The Huntsman, Whitney Terrell weaves a provocative tale of past sins and present consequences. At the center of it is Booker Short, a bitter young black man, who arrives in town bearing a grudge about the past. His ascent into white Kansas City society, his romance with Clarissa Sayers, and his subsequent involvement in her death polarize the city and lead to the final, shocking revelation of the wrong he's come to avenge.

With vivid characters, and razor-sharp detail, Terrell has created a pungent, powerfully imagined novel that illuminates a society divided by its past-and a part of the American Landscape that has remained untapped in American Fiction.
