This third release by Jacob Ray will have you on the edge of your seat for hours of reading! In this speedy thriller, Ray tells the story of a kleptomaniac on the run. Christian Barnes rips off a rehab clinic Staff before fleeing to Mendocino, California to hide in a lean-to/cabin in the woods he built. It is a quintessential thief's lair. His addictive compulsions cause him to go on a stealing spree. He decides the cabin is now too visible. He looks to go deeper. After a drug induced episode of digging into a nearby hillside, Christian discovers a possible cavern to occupy. He imagines hibernating in cold guilt for his crimes with some other cave dwellers. I'm breaking away big chunks now. I'm standing in a puddle. My shoes and socks are soaked. I don't care.
Then, I hear a sound that can only mean one thing.
On one of my big hits, I penetrate the wall and hear it. A little piece of rock falls and lands down a little ways on to what could only be a sandy floor. I have found a cave within my cave."
His descent deeper into the earth is reflective of his downward spiraling psychosis, as he aims higher with his craft of conning by stealing the ultimate prize! This book contains tons of passages about surfing and the ocean but they are secondary to the main story about an addiction to instant gratification that goes unchecked! Christian slowly becomes Freud's Id in human form, bent only on instant satisfaction to every wish and desire. Ray takes us deep into the remorseless mind of this master thief, as the pages ignite!
