The ignition spark control module is the brain of your ignition system. It's function is to control the firing sequence of the coils that are sitting on top of it. The coils once triggered, convert the 12 volt power of your vehicle's electrical system in to 35,000 or more volts. This produces a high intensity spark at the spark plug which then ignites the fuel in the cylinder.
After years of hot and cold conditions, the ignition control module will start to break down, thus causing the coils to misfire. Many engine start failures are attributed to the breakdown of the spark module and not the coils as many people suspect. In engines like this that use a coil pack with a removable ignition module, if the module goes bad, only that part needs to be replaced, not the entire assembly.
