• The “key” is a rod with a socket or fitting at one end that mates with the valve stem of a log lighter shutoff valve (often keyed valves that don’t use a typical knob)
• You insert the end of the key into the valve stem socket of the log lighter “stop/shutoff” valve and turn (rotate) the key to open or close the valve, thereby allowing or cutting off gas flow to the log lighter bar/burner
• When you open the valve, gas reaches the log lighter (igniter tube or burner), you light it (with a match, lighter, or other flame), and the flame from the log lighter helps ignite the wood logs
