Reflections in the River of No Return: A Salmon River Trilogy
"Reflections In the River of No Return" is a novel in three parts wherein the same narrator tells each tale, but from the perspective of the three different decades of his life.
In "The Eyes of Night", at twelve years old, the small town boy meets and spends the summer running around with the new kid from the big city of Denver. The two boys not only spend their days cavorting an and around the dangerous River of No Return, but also find themselves involved in increasingly risky behaviors on their summer nights out.
In "Under a Middle Fork Moon" the now twenty-two year old river guide tells the story of a rafting trip back in the seventies when boaters brought along good strong bail bail-buckets, tied their gear down with rope and cooked with fire and charcoal. On this particular journey, marital discord teams up with the hard partying rapid-running scene to supply the drama, while the majestic Middle Fork of the Salmon River provides the scenic backdrop.
In "Echo Canyon", at forty-two, the main narrator visits his nearly forgotten hometown for what he thinks will be a short funeral and a quick trip down Memory Lane. However, the city-dweller's frenetic pace of life has to slow down when he discovers his old stomping grounds hold more reminders of the days gone by. Much more.
