Redoute's Bouquets

Often called the "Raphael of Flowers," Pierre-Joseph Redoute was court painter and teacher to five French monarchs. His watercolors and engravings have been collected, exhibited and reproduced all over the world, and the originals are rare and coveted collector's items. Redoute's Bouquets consists of eighty-four recently rediscovered prints, that show the full range of this artist's genius. This work has never been catalogued, but it has been authenticated by a number of scholars. Each plate bears his name, and each is an exquisite example of his impeccable sense of color and composition. The work was most probably produced in the 1830's, when Redoute's reputation as a court painter to the regimes of Empress Josephine and Empress Marie Louise was firmly established.
