Westendorp wanted since childhood to become an illustrator. So she went straight from high school to the Royal School of Art and Craft Technology. (KTA) in 's-deer Egen Bosch and then to the Academy in Rotterdam. In 1937 she got her first assignment: to illustrate the tourist office guide Zaltbommel. Westendorp broke her studies after the bombing of Rotteram in May 1940, where the academy was destroyed. At the beginning of the war Westendorp lived with Clara Eggink and JCBloem and illustrated for magazines Cinema and Theatre and The Business World . From 1942 she lived with her parents in Zaltbommel, where she worked on the forging of identity and made for the Allies situation drawings Waal Bank. By Adriaan Roland Holst and Simon Carmiggelt she came to Freedom Netherlands and Het Parool, after the liberation in Amsterdam where she made weekly illustrations. They also illustrated the book rhymes and songs from the new box of Han G. Hoekstra and made them advertising drawings to include KLM. Fiep Westendorp died at the age of 87 to a respiratory infection. She was buried in the Municipal Cemetery of the Hilversumseweg in Laren in North Holland.
