Phantom Series Class D Full Range 5-Channel Car Amplifier The user must insure the amp makes AC music at the volume level they desire. To prevent failure the amplifier must produce AC and music - instead of DC and heat. To do this they must avoid the conditions below: 1) An amplifier of sufficient capacity. Bigger is better here. Larger power output and quality product rules. 2) Battery input power : 12.5 volts and 80 amps of current per 1000 watts desired from the amp. The Battery (or Batteries) must have the capacity to supply the current the amplifier needs to operate correctly at the volume desired. So, If you want 2000 watts amp output: You need the same 12.5 volts and 160 amps of input current. 3) Wire of sufficient gauge and quality to get current from the battery to the amp and back from the amp to the battery. When an otherwise good amp does not have the 3 things noted above it makes DC, overheats and burns the woofer’s voice coil. Also note a quality amplifier of low wattage (example 100 W music) when asked to make 500 watts music, will produce DC and burn the voice coil. So the same amp plays fine at 100 watts output, burns voice coils when asked to make more AC music than it is capable of. A marginal situation can be made better, but not always corrected, by using 4 Ohm woofers instead of 2 ohm woofers.
