Pigtown Chronicles: Sink or Swim

The first time I was in a drug bust, I was ten years old. The third time I was in a drug bust, I was ten years old. November 1986 was another drug bust, that landed my mother in prison serving twenty two years. When most kids my age were getting ready for college, I was getting ready to testify in my mother’s trial. I was seventeen, homeless and uneducated. That particular trifecta set me on a path I never wanted or dreamed of being on. I had choices though, I could sink or swim. Even though this is my story, I’m not that person anymore. I remember her with equal fondness and sadness. She didn’t deserve to be put in the situation of having to finish raising herself and figuring out the world at the same time but, if she hadn’t I wouldn’t be Me. Pigtown Chronicles, is one of the many stories I have of my journey to just survive. Good or bad I survived.
