Traditionally Yoga was not practiced on sticky rubber mats. Standing postures were done on the floor then a blanket or rug was used to do the seated postures. Rubber sticky mats are western inventions that do have unintended consequences like not developing strong inner feet. The reason we know this is because we have been practicing Traditional Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri K Pattahbi Jois and his grandson Sharath Jois for over 12 years.
