My mom is the one with the green thumb. In her garden there's always something blooming, and hardly any weeds. It's a haven for birds, bees and butterflies. I have to admit I'm a fair weather gardener. I do enjoy digging in the spring soil under those first warm days of April. I also love drawing all things garden and flower related. The inspiration is endless: seed packs, garden quotes, and flowers, flowers, flowers! I'm always keeping my eyes open for vintage script, especially old school samples full of squiggles and designs. To replicate that feel I use pen and ink. My "normal" handwriting looks juvenile but using the pen and ink is more like drawing the words and, taking my time, I have much better penmanship!
Kathy Schmitz has always been a quilter. In fact, she is a fourth generation quilter. Kathy made her first quilt when she was 13 years old on her grandmother's treadle sewing machine. In high school, she made quilts using batiks. In college, she studied graphic design.
