This shirt from the WarbirdShirtsTM collection features the Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon maritime patrol bomber. The Harpoon was a major redesign of the Lockheed Ventura bomber; improvements included a larger wing area making for easier takeoff, and an increased bomb load. The Harpoon, which first flew in December of 1943, experienced production delays and was not ready for combat until early 1945, thus the PV-2 saw little action in the Second World War. More than 500 Harpoons were built, and they served with the United States Navy until 1948. After retirement, some were converted into civilian transports and cropdusters
