In the Name of the Volk presents the history of the Volksgerichtshof (VGH), the National Socialist People's Court, Hitler's chief attempt to revamp German's legal system. Founded in 1934, the court dealt with treason as the Nazis defined it. The book focuses on the career of Roland Freisler, theoretician behind the court as well as its president form 1942 to 1945. Nazism, he believed, needed "organic" law--law that it could freely alter or stretch to meet problems as they arose.
