Handmade in Nepal, each mat is a one-of-a-kind artisan creation, so the tonal mix shifts a little from piece to piece. Sage is a quieter choice than the brighter colorways in the range.
• SHEEP'S WOOL, FELTED BY HAND: High-quality New Zealand sheep's wool is scrubbed, rolled and rinsed repeatedly with soapy water until the fibers bind, then shaped and dried until it reaches the right thickness and texture. Azo-free pigments supply the muted green tone, and the finished felt is built for hot cookware. Nothing synthetic is added to bulk out the fiber.
• GENEROUS 10 X 14 MAT: Sized at 10 x 14 in, it is large enough for casseroles, stockpots and serving boards, and it works equally well as a wool felt placemat at a single setting. Spot clean gently with a damp cloth when needed, and avoid machine washing and drying so that it keeps its shape. The rectangle also lines up along the edge of a long table rather than floating mid-surface.
