In the 1940's and 50's, Jim Kjelgaard was a favorite author of boys, who devoured his series of "Big Red" books, and men, who loved his outdoor and western tales.

"Freebooter" tells the brutal story of a typical day of carnage in the life of a wild mink. The opening line of the story summarizes the plot pretty well:

"When the mink came down to the lake, he brought terror with him."
