Disaster Pastor: The Power of a Small Light

Rev. Dr. Toby Nelson is a Disaster Pastor. His work began with 9/11, he was a thousand feet away from the World Trade Center on that day. He leads or serves on federal and private teams to “comfort the suffering, heal the broken, give hope to the brokenhearted, to shine a light to the dark places of despair, and to bring the ministry of heaven to hell.”

On one deployment they stood in sewage and stitched up bullet holes. Saturated in toxins, they delivered babies using flashlights. Without electricity or ventilators, exhausted team members bagged breath into the lungs of the near dead. While working among the dead, fellow team members brought the wounded back to life. They treated over 800 patients before snipers forced the team to flee. Though ill equipped, understaffed, exhausted, contaminated, and isolated, his team helped pull off the largest medical evacuation in history.
