Consensus Solutions: Perspectives on Monetizing the Deepwater Gas Reserves in Niger Delta, Nigeria

Problems with the extraction and sharing of oil wealth from the Niger Delta over the years made the quest to seek consensus solutions to monetize the deepwater gas resource a worthwhile challenge. This book is the distillation of a doctoral action research to find consensus solution to the policy conundrum among key stakeholders on monetizing deepwater gas reserves in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. The community people, government agencies and oil industry professionals are three key stakeholders whose perspectives on deepwater gas reserves monetization were obtained through questionnaire survey and focus group discussions. A systematic examination of thematic results from the different stakeholder focus groups presented some consensus on specific policy proposals and changes of law concerning deepwater gas deposits in Niger Delta.
