PLA is a corn based plastic. It offers the same durability as standard plastic straws, but is a more readily renewable resource. Straws and many other products made from PLA are capable of being composted in commercial composting settings. Please check your local regulations on whether or not PLA products can be composted commercially in your area. They are not suitable for backyard composting.

Paper straws are a more eco-friendly option than straws made out of any variety of plastic. Paper straws are a great option for businesses who want to reduce their environment impact, but still offer their customers the convenience of straws with their drink.
